A Healthy Family Lifestyle

Good Habits

It is important for parents to set a good example to their children with reference to their diet, lifestyle choices and exercise habits. Children look up to their parents and are more likely to imitate their behaviour, which means they will usually copy any bad habits their parents have. A healthy family lifestyle should be based upon strong relationships and healthy bodies; this can be achieved by eating a healthy diet, doing regular exercise and ensuring every family member is given love, attention and time to themselves. Simple tips like cooking and preparing meals together or playing sports together can lead to a much more harmonious family life.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Try to ensure you live in as healthy an environment as possible; this includes keeping your home clean and encouraging all family members to have a high standard of personal hygiene. It is advisable to wash at least once a day and to regularly wash bedding, towels and clothing; this will reduce the risk of bacteria or other microorganisms building up in the home.

Combating Stress

Being a parent can be stressful but try not to take it out on your children; try to allow yourself a period of time to be alone and relax as this will enable you to get on better with other members of your family. If there is an argument, try to iron out any problems as quickly as possible; leaving problems to linger can cause even more stress. There is support out there if you feel you are suffering; charities such as The Samaritans and Parentline will be able to listen to your problems and offer advice and guidance.
