Hare Hill at Littleborough

Hare Hill wins top prize at Design Awards!

We're thrilled that our ground-breaking RBH Extra Care scheme, Hare Hill in Littleborough, has won the overall prize at this year’s Rochdale Borough Design Awards.

The awards, organised annually by Rochdale Council, celebrate the best in new development design, with a particular focus on the relationship between good design and building successful communities.

Hare Hill, which opened in summer 2015, is Rochdale borough’s first purpose-built Extra Care scheme. Run in partnership with Rochdale Council, which has appointed the care provider, the opening of Hare Hill marked a defining moment in the way that the Borough cares for older people. The 41 apartments enable residents to lead independent lives with the reassurance that help is available whenever needed.

The Extra Care scheme also has a community café and hair salon (both of which are open to the local community), an attractive garden, facilities for residents to pursue hobbies and interests and a comfortable lounge area.

Hare Hill represented a £4.9 million investment by RBH and was built with the help of a £903,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

There was also success for the Q Gardens community project, which picked up the community commendation award. The community garden has gone from strength to strength in recent years thanks to the hard work of local volunteers. Q Gardens is at the heart of the Kirkholt community and receives support from the RBH community partnership team.

Clare Tostevin, RBH Director of Communities, said:

“We’re really proud of Hare Hill which has provided a step change in the provision of homes for older people in Rochdale and has created a fantastic community facility at the heart of Littleborough. The input of our tenants and the wider community in the design process was invaluable and we’re thrilled that Hare Hill has received such prestigious recognition.

We’re also very pleased that the hard work of the team at Q Gardens had rightly been recognised and rewarded by the Design Awards judges.”
