A total of 26 new homes on Longridge Drive in Heady Hill, Heywood are due to be completed next October after construction work got underway.
The homes will consist of 19 two-bedroom houses, four three-bedroom houses and three two-bedroom bungalows.
Previous work at Longridge Drive saw the construction of 14 houses and bungalows with residents moving into their new homes in the summer of 2013.
The new homes are being built with the help of a £546,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Cruden Construction, who also built the previous phase, are the contractors on the project.
The new homes at Longridge Drive form part of an RBH agreement with the Government to deliver 79 additional affordable rented homes over the next two years. This follows on from the 104 new homes already completed by the mutual RBH since 2012.
These included homes at Longridge Drive in Heywood, homes in central Rochdale and the borough’s first purpose-built Extra Care facility, Hare Hill in Littleborough.
It is very challenging to deliver affordable homes for rent at this time but RBH recognise this continues to be a need in the borough and remain committed to trying to find ways to fund much needed new homes.
Clare Tostevin, RBH Director of Communities, said:
“I’m delighted that work has begun on these new homes in Heady Hill which will be built to high design standards to provide a great addition to the local community. We are very grateful for the support of the HCA which has enabled us to continue to meet the need for affordable housing in the area.
RBH is a mutual society and the new residents will have the opportunity to become members and join with us to create an even stronger neighbourhood.”
