Benefits - Free School Meals

What is it?

Parents or guardians of pupils who attend primary, secondary or special schools may be entitled to help with the cost of school meals.

Who is eligible?

You need to be in receipt of the following qualifying benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit and not have an annual income exceeding £16,040
  • Support under part VI of the immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

How much will I get?

The child will be entitled to free school meals at the school, sixth form or  college attended.

How do I apply?

  • An application pack can be obtained from:
  • Schools
  • Council Customer Service Centres
  • Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Offices
  • Or ring the Revenues & Benefits Service on 0845 121 2970
