What is it?
Working Tax Credit is paid to you if you are working (employed
or self employed) and on a low income. It doesn’t matter if you
have children or not you can still claim.
Who is eligible?
There are 4 main criteria to qualify for Working Tax Credit:
- Age 16 or over, working 16 hours a week or more and responsible
for a child or young person.
- Age 16 or over, working 16 hours a week or more and
disabled.
- Age 25 or over, working 30 hours a week or more. You do not
have to have children but must work enough hours and be on a low
income.
- Age 50 or over and working 16 hours a week after claiming
certain other benefits for over 26 weeks before you started
work.
You must be living in the UK. If you are from abroad you may
have difficulty claiming Working Tax Credit depending on you
Immigration status. Contact your nearest Citizens Advise Bureau
(CAB) if unsure of your right to claim. Rochdale CAB telephone

Couples have to make a joint application for Tax Credits.
