How much discount will I get?

Houses

If you are buying a house, the minimum discount allowed for two years tenancy is 32%. Additional discount of 1% for each extra complete years tenancy is allowed up to a maximum of 60% for 30 years or more. After 18th January 2005 tenants who need a minimum qualifying tenancy period of 5 years will receive a minimum discount of 35%.

Flats and maisonettes

If you are buying a flat or maisonette, the minimum discount allowed for two years tenancy is 44%.

Additional discount of 2% for each extra years tenancy is allowed up to a maximum of 70% for 15 years or more. After 18th January 2005 tenants who need a minimum qualifying period of 5 years will receive a minimum discount of 50%.

General

All discounts awarded by landlords in the North West region are subject to an overall maximum of £26,000. The discount entitlement may be reduced if:

  • You have received a discount in respect of a previous sale which has not been repaid
  • The amount the council has spent on the property within the last 10 - 11 years, over and above repair costs of £5,500 is greater than the discounted price.
