Sheltered Housing
Sheltered housing is ideal for elderly people who can manage
their own home, but who may need a little help to stay
independent.
A sheltered housing scheme usually consists of 25 - 35
individual flats. Most flats in sheltered housing schemes
have:
• Their own bedroom, lounge area, kitchen and
bathroom
• Central heating • An electric cooker (in some
flats)
• A shared lounge and laundry room
• A 24 hour warden and alarm service;

apply. You should be 60 years or over, with a need for this
type of housing. People under 60 may be considered if they have
special needs that would be helped by living in a sheltered
scheme.
