We've teamed up with developer Lovell and Hopwood Hall College to provide valuable work experience placements for four local students at our Hopwood Green development in Middleton.
Hopwood Green is our first shared ownership development as a mutual housing society, with 25 affordable homes designed to help local people who want to make a start on the property ladder but can't afford to buy outright. The new homes have already proven popular with the local community - almost 50% have been reserved, with prices starting at £62,475 for a 35% share of a two-bedroom house.
Four students from Hopwood Hall College have undertaken practical work experience on site, as part of a social value commitment by both RBH and Lovell to provide a wider benefit to the community and to the local economy.
18 year old Mohammed Miah, a joinery student at Hopwood Hall, is one of the four local students who have benefitted from the work experience at Hopwood Green.
Aine Graven, RBH Social Value Co-ordinator, said:
"As one of the borough’s most significant employers and purchasers, we know we have a responsibility to help build the local economy and support communities across Rochdale borough. As part of this, we're really proud to be able to broker these fantastic opportunities for young people like Mohammed to put their college theory work in practice on site."
Paul Wobey, Social Value Manager for Lovell, said:
“Mohammed has recently completed his carpentry and joinery work experience placement this month on site, which was overseen by our site manager, Janet Cook. He had a great experience week on site working with the site joiners. Mohammed certainly is a team player and he put some of his college learning in to actual practice - he is a credit to himself and Hopwood Hall College.”
