New Work and Skills Support for RBH Tenants Impacted by COVID-19

We have worked with a local social enterprise called Upturn Ltd to secure ESF funding to support RBH tenants whose income has been impacted by COVID-19. If you are an RBH tenant who has lost their job or is at risk of redundancy due to COVID-19 you may be eligible for the programme.

Throughout the programme, Upturn can provide tailored support depending on the needs of the person. They are offering one-to-one coaching, advice on the jobs market, support with job searching, group training sessions on common skills such as preparing for online interviews. They can also support people to access training and qualifications to move into new types of work.

To be eligible the person must be:

  • 16 or over and resident in Greater Manchester
  • Be unemployed, economically inactive or at risk of redundancy (unfortunately, if you are currently furloughed you will not be eligible)
  • Be legally resident in the UK and can take up paid employment within the EU
  • Living in an RBH property

For RBH, housing is not just about the provision of great homes for people and families, it is also about improving the lives of communities, about creating vibrant local neighbourhoods and creating a more inclusive economy.

RBH sends a monthly Work and Skills newsletter with information about upcoming events, training and job opportunities and local projects. You can subscribe to the newsletter here.

Our flagship apprentice programme has supported Rochdale residents to kick-start their new careers for many years. We are committed to growing the local economy by offering residents access to opportunities to upskill and develop through our Apprenticeship Programme.

We’ve offered a range of apprenticeships in the past, with successful candidates getting the opportunity to make a real contribution to key parts of our business and to deliver front-line services to our customers. Our apprenticeships have included:

  • Plumbing
  • Joinery
  • Electrical
  • Gas central heating
  • Customer service
  • Business administration

Successful candidates got the opportunity to make a real contribution to key parts of our business and to deliver front-line services to our customers.

As a mutual housing association, we’re keen to encourage RBH tenants of all ages and with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply because we recognise and value what this can bring to our organisation. We have made the decision to reserve our four autumn 2020 apprenticeship vacancies for RBH tenants and people living in RBH homes.

We recognise that work placements can provide valuable, real-life experience that help people to understand where their interests and skills lie, as well as provide evidence for job interviews. We have supported work experience placements for young people, people returning to work and those looking to change careers.

To maximize our impact, we are designing a new work experience offer which will launch in 2020 with a Workplace Safari for young people.

Our RBH Work and Skills Annual Report 2019-20

In 2019, we introduced a new Work and Skills Strategy for RBH which set out our bold and ambitious approach to increasing higher level skills and wealth creation in the borough. We are proud to share this annual report which provides an overview of progress over the past year, and highlights some of the amazing achievement of the apprentices, tenants and residents who have accessed programmes. We’re really proud of what has been achieved in year one of the strategy and look forward to building on the learning for year two!
