We're proud to be a mutual housing society co-owned by our tenants and employees, and we've seen over the past year the real difference that we have made by working together. As we count down to our "birthday" celebrations on 26th June, we're sharing the stories of our tenants and employees
We asked James Coutts, who is an Electrician in our Repairs Team and one of our employee representatives, to tell us a bit more about why he decided to join the Representative Body, and what difference he can make as a Representative.
Hello, I’m James Coutts and I have worked for RBH now for nearly three years. I’m employed as an electrician. I joined the Representative Body as an employee representative nearly six months ago.
I decided to become an employee representative because I felt our trade section was under-represented. I feel the more diverse voices you have on the Representative Body the better.
So being part of the Representative Body gives me a voice and allows me to put forward my ideas. I have been able to draw on my lived experience as an employee. It has been really rewarding to work alongside other representatives to help shape our future plans
I would encourage any employees to join the Representative Body. You will have loads of opportunities to develop new skill sets. The Representative Body actively encourages personal development to help increase your self-confidence. You may even discover more about yourself that brings a sense of achievement in everything you do for your future and our members.
I’d say stop thinking about all the things that could go wrong and give the Representative Body a try. It could be one of your ideas that’s taken on board and changes RBH and people's lives for the better - or it may be the Representative Body that changes yours. After all being happy never goes out of style - so go on, you know you want to!
Bye for now...
