Lift and lifting equipment safety
Lifts play an important role in helping customers and visitors ben independent. We are committed to ensuring that all equipment across our homes and buildings is regularly inspected, maintained, and operated in accordance with legal and safety requirements.
Lifting equipment includes any equipment used to lift or lower people or loads. This can include:
-
Passenger lifts
-
Platform lifts
-
Stairlifts
-
Hoists
-
Ceiling track hoists
RBH carries out a comprehensive programme of inspections, servicing, and maintenance to ensure our lifting equipment remains safe to use.
This includes:
-
Regular servicing by qualified engineers
-
Thorough examinations in line with statutory requirements
-
Planned preventative maintenance
-
Prompt response to reported faults and breakdowns
-
Monitoring contractor performance and safety standards
Where inspections identify defects or safety concerns, appropriate action is taken to address them as quickly as possible.
What to Do if a Lift Breaks Down
If a lift stops working, please report it to us as soon as possible.
When reporting a fault, please provide:
-
The building address
-
Lift location (if applicable)
-
Details of the issue
Our maintenance contractor will assess the fault and arrange repairs within 4 hours. In cases where customers become trapped in a lift, we’ll do our best to get there within an hour. (Again, if the call comes outside of work hours, it might take a bit longer, but we’ll still aim for under an hour.)
Lift safety tips
To help keep everyone safe, please:
-
Do not overload lifts.
-
Allow passengers to leave before entering.
-
Keep children supervised at all times.
-
Do not obstruct lift doors.
-
Follow any signage or instructions displayed within the lift.
-
Report any unusual noises, damage, or defects immediately.
During Planned Maintenance
Occasionally, lifts may need to be temporarily taken out of service for planned inspections, maintenance, or essential repairs. Where possible, we will provide advance notice and keep disruption to a minimum.
